7 Reasons Your Sphynx Cat Sleeps So Many Hours - Part 4!

So by now you know that it’s completely natural and normal for your cat to sleep anywhere from 12 to 18 hours per day depending on their age, with young kittens and senior cats sleeping more than their middle aged counterparts.

If you find your kitty sleeping more than normal and especially if this is during the daytime, it may simply be because they’re bored!

A bored cat will sleep when there is nothing to do that engages or amuses them. The flip side of this is that boredom can lead to behavior problems like becoming destructive. It can also lead to depression and other health ailments that come along with this negative cycle of behavior.

Be sure to combat boredom in your kitty to help their mental and physical health. Ideally you want to schedule at least 2 dedicated play sessions with your kitty daily. Experts recommend at least 15 to 30 minutes of focused play. You can set a timer and make this part of your normal daily routine - once it becomes a habit, it will be easier to continue and you’ll see that it’s not only your cat who enjoys this special one-on-one time.

Here’s what I do with my cat, Stubbin - I take him out for one 15 minute walk every day and then I do another 15 minute play session in the evening. Personally this is what works for me because I like getting outside into the fresh air. Stubbin loves being outside too and it helps him to stay active, sleep less, combat boredom and just be his healthiest, happiest best self.
