Conjunctivitis: Also known as pink eye, this is as common in Skinny pigs as it is in humans. It's the inflammation of the tissue covering the eye, leading to redness, swelling, and sometimes a discharge.

Cataracts: Yes, our little friends can develop cataracts too, leading to cloudy spots on their eyes that can impair vision.

Corneal Ulcers: These are essentially scratches on the eye's surface, which can be painful and, if untreated, can lead to more serious issues.

Hay Poke: This is when a small piece of hay is lodged in the eye. Usually, the hay can be easily removed without lasting consequences. However, in severe cases where a sharp piece of hay has penetrated the eye, it can result in permanent damage.

Causes

Bacterial Infections: The leading cause of conjunctivitis - these infections can come from dirty bedding or even the hands of well-meaning humans.

Genetics: Just like us, skinny pigs can inherit a predisposition to certain conditions, like cataracts.

Injury: Often the result of an adventurous skinny pig taking a misstep during playtime or scratching their eye on something a bit too rough.

Veterinary Visits: At the first sign of trouble (think redness, squinting, or discharge), it's time to visit the vet. They can prescribe antibiotics for infections or advise on the best course of action for more serious conditions.

Safe Spaces: Ensure your skinny pig's play area is free from sharp objects and hazards that could lead to injuries.
