If you suspect your cat has a Feline Herpes infection you need to know how to properly diagnose the condition.
The diagnostic test is widely available and inexpensive however the veterinary profession does not often utilize this test. I have seen it many times where the veterinarian just bypasses the testing and diagnoses something like allergies instead, resulting in your cat not getting the correct treatment they need.
The test you want to ask for is called a feline upper respiratory PCR test and it's going to be a simple swab of discharge from your cat's eyes and nose and another from down their throat. Your veterinarian will then package up the testing and send it to an outside lab where you'll usually have the test results back in 2 to 3 days.
It's important to note that you ask for the general upper respiratory PCR test. This one will test for a number of different upper respiratory conditions which is of great benefit to your cat because they may have symptoms that look like Feline Herpes Virus but it may be a chronic bacterial infection instead or a different kind of viral infection.
Getting an accurate diagnosis of what your cat is suffering from is what you need to set you down the right path of working with your veterinarian and receiving targeted conventional medicine therapies as well as working with a holistic practitioner for natural therapy support as well.
