How to Prevent Diabetes in Your Sphynx Cat!

Now that we know what diabetes is and how it affects your cat’s body, let’s look at how common it is.

So there is no good data currently to show exactly the number of cats that are diagnosed with diabetes. Also there are many cats living with diabetes that remain undiagnosed. However, we do know that one of the largest predispositions for cats to develop diabetes is if they are overweight or obese.

Unfortunately in the United States today as many as 60% of cats are overweight, allowing all of those cats to be at a greater risk for diabetes. Statistics are showing that a cat that is 3 pounds or more overweight is at very high risk of developing diabetes. That means that if you have an average breed size cat, not like a Maine Coon cat, if they weigh 13 pounds or more, that is going to greatly increase their risk of developing diabetes.

So today’s cat tip is that diabetes is currently on the rise because so many cats are overweight or obese however we can stop this projection of increased cases of diabetes by getting our cats back to a healthy weight through proper diet and exercise
