It’s no secret, cats are the masters of sleeping, however, if your cat is sleeping excessively there may be some serious reasons behind it that you should be aware of.

One of the major reasons why your cat may be sleeping a lot is an underlying undiagnosed illness. This is especially a cause for concern if the need to sleep more has developed suddenly. It is extremely important to familiarize yourself with normal sleep patterns for your cat and to be on the lookout for any changes to the norm.

Some of the most common offenders for illnesses that could cause excessive sleeping are:

• Hyperthyroid Disease
• Kidney Disease
• Liver Disease
• Heart Disease
• Cancer

All of these are very serious if left untreated, so it’s important to get your kitty checked out by a veterinarian if they suddenly start sleeping more than normal.

So, today’s cat tip is if your cat’s sleeping patterns have changed recently, please don’t overlook this. Take your cat into your veterinarian for a thorough examination to rule out any of these sinister diseases as the cause of excessive sleep.
