Heat lamps are something I really recommend for all sphynx cats. It’s a game changer for their overall health and happiness.

One of the questions I get often from people is “Is a heat lamp safe for my sphynx’s eyes, if they look directly into the light?”

The bulbs for the heat lamps are not UV bulbs and therefore they are safe for your sphynx cat's eyes, even if they look directly into the light while lying beneath it.

The bulbs that I personally use for my own heat lamp and the ones I recommend to fellow sphynx parents are the ceramic bulbs. I like these because they tend to last a lot longer - they don’t burn out or blow out like the regular ones. I have had the same ceramic bulb now for 3 years with no problems. Stubbin’s heat lamp is permanently on, I don’t ever switch off his heat lamp so he can use it whenever he wants and the bulb is still going strong.

I love ceramic bulbs because they emit no lights. Stubbin’s heat house is set up in my bedroom and since it runs 24/7, I of course don’t want lights on when I’m trying to sleep.

So, it doesn’t hurt their eyes and you can even get ones with no light, so go and make yourself the sphynx parent of the year and set your kitty up a warm and snug area to relax in.
