Is your CARPET making your Cat SICK?

If you have a cat or dog that struggles with respiratory issues like allergies or asthma, there is something in your home that may be causing it that you may have never considered!

Carpeting is notorious for being allergenic. Though it feels plush and soft on your feet, those soft fibers easily trap dust, debris, hair, and outside allergens. As you or your pets walk around, these are kicked into the air, irritating your dog’s respiratory system. This will happen no matter how much you vacuum!

Treated with Chemicals

Carpet is also usually treated. Because of the nature of carpeting being repeatedly walked on, carpet fibers are often sprayed with different chemicals before installation. These chemicals help preserve the color of the carpet, protect it from damage and staining, and may even include fire retardants.

However, these chemicals are not good to breathe in! While we may not notice, our pets surely do! Their sensitive noses can pick up the chemicals easily. Not to mention, they are often the ones laying on the carpet for years and years! After a while, this can really damage their respiratory system and cause long-term issues, like asthma.

What to Switch To

If your pet is experiencing any of these long-term effects, or even if they are prone to allergies or other respiratory issues, I strongly encourage you to weigh whether it’s worth it to have carpeting in your home. If you do decide to replace it, try going with something non-porous like tile flooring or hardwood flooring. This will keep the debris from permeating your floors, making it easier to keep clean!

Keep giving your pets the best of natural life!
