Is Your Cat Still Going Outside The Litter Box? Here’s How To Fix It!

When your cat goes outside of the litter box, it can be stressful not knowing why. There are several potential reasons why they choose to use the restroom outside of where they should go, and it’s often due to cleanliness. Below, we'll provide tips to prevent your cat from going outside the litter box.

Why Does Cleanliness Matter?

Think about it: you likely want your bathroom space to be clean, and your cat is no different. Sphynx cats are incredibly clean creatures. They are very sensitive to odors and dirty litter. If their box isn't clean, they will likely prefer to “go” elsewhere. If they randomly start “going” outside their litter box, this should be one of the first things you should look into.

Cleanliness Tips

Your cat should always have a clean box. Your cat's litter box should be scooped at least once a day, twice if possible. It may not entirely be practical in your schedule to scoop your cat's box twice a day, which is why having more than one available to them is important.

When it comes to how many litter boxes your cat should have, you ideally should have at least one extra litter box per cat. If you have one cat, you should have two boxes. This way, they have options. If your cat's box isn't as clean as they would like it to be, they would have another box to go to.

In Conclusion

In the end, cleanliness is one of the biggest reasons why your cat may have stopped “going” in their litter box. They like a clean area to use the restroom, so it's up to you as their pet parent to keep it that way!
