What to do if Your Sphynx has a Cold - Part 2

In part one of this series, we talked about how to tell if your Sphynx cat’s cold is serious enough to require a vet visit. As I always say, if you’re unsure, it’s best to play it safe and consult your veterinarian.

But just like us humans, many mild feline colds can be safely treated at home with a little rest, TLC and the right holistic support. In fact, some of the most effective ways to help your Sphynx recover don’t involve synthetic medications at all - they come from nature.

Why Herbal Remedies Work So Well

One of the beautiful things about herbal medicine is that it doesn’t need to be as specific as conventional medications. In traditional veterinary care, antibiotics are targeted toward one specific type of bacteria and antivirals are designed for just one kind of virus. But a well-formulated herbal blend can support your cat’s immune system in a much broader way.

That means even if you’re not 100% sure whether your kitty is dealing with a virus, bacteria, or a combination of both (yes, that happens too!), an herbal supplement can still help.

Sometimes when a Sphynx gets sick, they’re actually dealing with more than one thing. For example, a bacterial infection might lower their immune defenses and allow an opportunistic virus to flare up. This is where herbal supplements really shine.

They don’t just target pathogens - they support your cat’s whole system.

What I Recommend

At ReNewedPet®, we’ve spent a lot of time researching the best ways to support your cat during times of illness. Here’s what I recommend:

  1. Vitamin C is a MUST.

  2. A good multivitamin for cats

  3. A human-grade fresh food diet

  4. Immune system support

These natural tools can help your kitty bounce back faster without the risk of harsh side effects or further gut imbalance.

Remember, your cat’s gut health is directly linked to immune strength. In fact, about 80% of their immune system resides there. Repeated rounds of antibiotics (especially when they’re not needed) can cause long-term damage to gut flora and leave your cat vulnerable to recurring illness.

That’s why herbal medicine is such a smart, holistic option, especially for:

  • Mild or early-stage infections

  • Cats recovering from stress or change

  • Pets stuck in a cycle of chronic illness after multiple rounds of antibiotics

As a pet parent, you know your cat best. If something feels off or you’re concerned about your kitty’s symptoms, trust your gut and call your vet. But if your cat has a mild cold and you’d prefer to take a natural, supportive route, herbal medicine is a gentle, effective choice.

Keep giving your pets the best of natural life!
