Why Pellet Cat Litter May Be A Bad Idea For Your Cat!

Welcome to the third installment on my new series all about the best cat litter for your cat.

One of the big considerations to take into account when choosing a litter for your kitty is the size of the litter itself.

Some cats have feet that are more sensitive and they do not like to use cat litter that has big, chunky pieces.

Now here’s a perfect example, I recently tried a new litter for my cats. It was a high quality, hypoallergenic litter and ticked all the boxes of things I would look for in an ideal litter,

HOWEVER…

My Stubbin just would not use it, because the pieces of litter were really large and irritated his feet.

So if you have a cat that's more sensitive like I do then you need to look for a litter with small, fine particles that is not so jarring and uncomfortable to step on.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a cat may suddenly develop a sensitivity to big pieces of litter.

Things to look out for that may indicate this:

  • If the pads of the feet are suddenly dry and cracked where they had never been before (this is easy to spot if you are doing regular foot treatments with our nail and paw cleaner).
  • If they develop a skin allergy, their feet might be feeling irritated and more sensitive than usual.
  • Maybe they are developing arthritis and walking on bigger pieces of litter is becoming harder and uncomfortable for them.

There are a number of reasons why your cat may suddenly stop using a litter, so if you have a kitty who is suddenly refusing to use their litter, you should consider the size of the litter you have and make sure it’s something soft and comfortable for them to use to guarantee that they go where they are supposed to.
