If you have a hairless pet, then you know how important it is to protect their skin when they go out into the sun.
Traditional sunscreens, even ones for babies, contain ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium oxide, which are effective but can be harmful to your pets, so I wanted to create a product that not only shields your hairless dogs, cats and even skinny pigs from the sun but also is safe for them to use.
How We Tested It?
Testing our sunscreen was a meticulous process aimed at comparing its effectiveness against an FDA-certified SPF 35 product. The SPF number 35 indicates how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned compared to if you weren’t wearing any sunscreen. For example, if you typically burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 35 sunscreen theoretically allows you to stay in the sun for 350 minutes (35 times longer) without burning.
Both our RenewedPet sunscreen and the FDA-certified product were applied side-by-side on my brother who then lay out in the hot Florida sun for 2 hours in July, our hottest summer month.
This timeframe was chosen to simulate a typical outdoor play session, providing a realistic assessment of the sunscreen’s performance.
After two hours of sun exposure, we compared my brother's arms. Our natural sunscreen had not only matched but outperformed the FDA-certified SPF 35 product. This shows that RenewedPet’s natural formulation can effectively protect your hairless pets from sunburn and skin damage.
It’s important to note that while our homemade testing showed promising results, we cannot officially claim an SPF rating due to regulatory constraints. The FDA requires sunscreens to contain either zinc oxide or titanium oxide to achieve an official SPF rating and since these ingredients are toxic to pets we cannot get FDA approval for our formulation.
However, I’m confident in saying that this RenewedPet sunscreen provides an approximate SPF of 35.
Why Choose RenewedPet Sunscreen?
Natural and Safe: Our sunscreen is free from harmful chemicals and toxins, making it safe for your sphynx, Chinese crested, xolo (Xoloitzcuintle), and American hairless terrier, even if they happen to lick their skin (as you know cats and dogs tend to).
Effective Protection: Despite the regulatory limitations, our testing has shown that our sunscreen provides robust protection similar to an SPF 35 product.
Peace of Mind: Knowing that your hairless dog, cat, or skinny pig is shielded from the sun allows you to enjoy outdoor activities together without worry.
So while we may not have an official SPF rating, our testing shows that we’re offering a product that truly makes a difference.
So, next time you and your hairless baby are ready for some fun in the sun, reach for RenewedPet sunscreen and enjoy the outdoors safely!
Keep giving your pets the best of natural life!
