How is Feline Herpes Virus Treated?

A question from our sphynx cat community recently asked about using Viralys to treat Feline Herpes Virus, even though their cat isn’t having an active outbreak.

Viralys contains the amino acid L-Lysine which has properties that help to lower the strength of Feline Herpes Virus, by stopping it from replicating. This is very similar to the antiviral medications that conventional veterinarians can and sometimes do prescribe. However, in my extensive experience with cats, I have not seen antiviral medication make much of a difference, if any. Also, with drugs like these, you need to bear in mind that there is always the risk of unpleasant side effects.

Moreover, the L-Lysine and antiviral medications alone are often not enough to bring the virus completely into remission. At the same time you have to give something that's going to boost your cat’s immune system so the two can work together to get the virus into remission.

So this is where you want to supplement treatment with our RenewedPet Immune Boost Powder which is extremely effective when used correctly and in combination with the L-Lysine. You can get this product in powder form from online retailers like Amazon or at your local health food store or pharmacy. These human options are typically unflavored and you simply add it to your cat’s food at a dosage of 500 mg twice daily. There are also veterinary L-Lysine Powders or gels that you can buy specifically for cats. These are flavored to make it easier to tempt your kitty to eat it.

Now you’re giving something daily that helps to suppress the virus and something every day that’s helping to build your cat’s core immune system.

Using these two things together, we can achieve really great results.
