Up until recent years a diagnosis of FIP almost 100% was a guaranteed death sentence for any cat and typically kittens who were diagnosed with this condition.
However, in recent years, a new antiviral medication has been proven to resolve up to 93% of cases. Considering this is a condition which is diagnosed in up to 2% of the total feline population this medication equals millions of cats lives that are being saved each year.
This medication was available in the UK and Australia however it’s still not officially released and approved by the FDA here in the United States. As of June 1st 2024 however, a few pharmaceutical companies throughout the USA have started to stock and to dispense the compounded medication.
The medication still does not have its official branded name yet - it currently goes by the letters and numbers GS441524.
So today’s cat tip is make sure you save this information, share it with your friends, or in any of the cat communities that you’re a part of to be sure that everybody now knows that FIP is now a treatable, curable disease in 93% of the cases.
This is one of the largest breakthroughs in feline health that we have seen in decades
