The Best Vaccine Protocol for Your Pets!

The Best Vaccine Protocol for Your Pets!

The Best Vaccine Protocol for Your Pets!

At ReNewedPet, we're always seeking the most effective, safe, and scientifically backed health practices for your pets.

Based on all of my years of research and experience working with dogs and cats, I like to promote a modified version of Dr. Jean Dodds’ vaccine protocol.

The protocol I recommend is designed to maximize protection while minimizing exposure to unnecessary vaccines, which can be particularly beneficial for pets with sensitive systems.

Here's what I recommend:

For Cats

Here’s the schedule for cats:

Kitten Vaccination Schedule

  • 9-10 Weeks Old: Vaccinations for Panleukopenia (feline parvovirus), Calicivirus, and Rhinopneumonitis Virus (feline herpesvirus-1) using FVRCP.
  • 14-15 Weeks Old: Administer the same set of vaccines as above to bolster immunity.

Adult Cat Vaccination and Health Monitoring

  • 24 Weeks or Older: Rabies vaccination, if required by law.
  • 1 Year: An optional FVRCP booster can be given, based on titer results.
  • 1+ Year: Repeat Rabies vaccination, ensuring it is separated by 4 weeks from the FVRCP booster.

Long-term Health Strategy

  • Conduct vaccine antibody titers for panleukopenia virus every three years, or more frequently if desired. Continue to vaccinate for rabies as per legal requirements, with adjustments based on specific circumstances.

For Dogs

Here’s the schedule for dogs:

Puppy Vaccination Schedule

  • 9 – 10 weeks of age: Administer Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
  • 14 – 15 weeks of age: Repeat Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV.
  • 18 weeks of age: Parvovirus only, MLV. Important to note that the last puppy parvovirus vaccine should be administered at this age.
  • 20 weeks or older: Administer Rabies vaccine, mercury-free (thimerosol-free). Schedule 4 weeks apart from other vaccines, if allowable by law.

Adult Dog Vaccination and Health Monitoring

  • 1 year old: Optional booster for Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV or perform titer to decide on further vaccination needs.
  • 1 year old: Rabies vaccination, using a 3-year mercury-free product, if allowable by law.

Long-term Health Monitoring

  • Perform vaccine antibody titers for distemper and parvovirus every three years, or more often if desired, to tailor the vaccination schedule to your pet's specific needs.

This approach aligns perfectly with our philosophy at ReNewedPet - promoting a holistic and informed approach to pet health that prioritizes their well-being above all.

By adopting these guidelines, we can help ensure that our pets live long, healthy, and happy lives, protected from diseases but not exposed to excessive vaccinations.
