Transitioning Your Kitten Out Of Quarantine
Is it time to start transitioning your Sphynx kitten out of quarantine? This is an exciting milestone, but it needs to be handled slowly and delicately to ensure a safe and positive transition. Below, we'll discuss how to transition your kitten out of quarantine and what to expect.
Why Is A Quarantine Period Important For A New Kitten?
Being introduced into a new home with strangers can be an overwhelming and anxiety-inducing experience. Introducing them to a new environment and your other pets can be overwhelming at once. This can cause them to become sick, upset, feel overwhelmed, or start to have out-of-the-box accidents. While it's exciting to welcome a new pet into your home, it needs to be handled with care to ensure that the process goes smoothly and to reduce as much anxiety for your new hairless baby as possible.
Tips For Transitioning Out Of Quarantine
Now that your kitten has been in quarantine for approximately 7-10 days, it's time to start transitioning them out of quarantine. You'll want to start slowly moving their stuff out of quarantine. You don't want to go too quickly, which could be overwhelming. Instead, start by removing one item a day, like their scratcher or a toy. You can slowly increase to more important items like their bed, their food and water dish, and their litter box.
Ideally, you should have one liter box per cat. So if you already have a cat, you'll want to have another litter box for your new kitten. To move their litter box out of quarantine, slowly move it about 12 inches out of the room each day until you get your litter box to its new location.
