Treatment of Feline Herpes Virus

If you are noticing signs that your kitty may be suffering from the Feline Herpes Virus, here are some treatment options that are available to you to help your kitty fight this infection and get well again.

  • Antiviral Medication

You can ask your veterinarian to prescribe an antiviral medicine for your kitty. Commonly, Famciclovir is the drug of choice for this particular virus. However, in my extensive experience with cats, I have not seen antiviral medication make much of a difference, if any. Moreover, with drugs like these, you need to bear in mind that there is always the risk of unpleasant side effects.

If you are looking for some natural and effective alternatives, here are the two options I recommend if your cat is struggling to overcome Feline Herpes Virus.

  • L-Lysine

One of the best natural treatments for Feline Herpes Infection is L-Lysine, which is an amino acid that is one of the building blocks of protein. You can get this product in powder form from online retailers like Amazon or at your local health food store or pharmacy. These human options are typically unflavored and you simply add it to your cat’s food at a dosage of 500 mg twice daily. There are also veterinary L-Lysine Powders or gels that you can buy specifically for cats. These are flavored to make it easier to tempt your kitty to eat it.

  • Antiviral Herbal Medicine

On our website RenewedPet we sell an Immune Boost Powder which has a combination of cat-safe herbs that help to kill viruses. Adding this to your cat’s food for a duration of 3 to 4 weeks can really help their immune system to grow stronger which will help to combat the virus.

Remember that your cat’s best defense against this virus (or any virus really), is to use their own immune system to fight it off. So be sure you are giving your cat’s body what it needs with the right supplements and by feeding a fresh, healthy diet. While your cat is fighting off this virus make sure he or she is living a low-stress life with plenty of rest, sleep and extra cuddles

Keep giving your pets the best of natural life!
