Part III in my new urinary health series - a WET FOOD ONLY diet is the best diet to prevent urinary issues in our pets! YES even better than those prescription foods!
Wet food is your best defense against urinary issues, because a steady flow of water into your pet increase urine out-put which in turn greatly reduces the chance for bacteria and urinary crystals to build-up leading to infection and urinary blockage.
This is Especially true in our pet cats who being natural desert animals, do not have a high thirst drive, so when they don’t get enough water in their diet through their food, they do NOT simply go to the water bowl to make up the difference like our pups do.
The very BEST diet for our dogs and cats to prevent urinary issues is a properly balanced raw food diet, because this is highest in moisture content, however if you can’t or do not wish to feed raw, a home-cooked diet, commercial pre-cooked, or a high protein canned diet is the next best way to go. Just be sure to make this 100% of the diet... yep NO DRY FOOD - for every bit of dry food they eat, that is less moisture they take in and greatly increased risk of urinary issues.
